“Merry Mushroom” Teapot (1976)
Mint condition ceramic teapot with no chips or scratches, made in Japan for the Sears, Roebuck & Co. “Merry Mushroom” kitchen set (which was cataloged between 1976 and 1980). This teapot is both microwave and dishwasher safe and measures approximately 10″ from spout to handle, 8″ wide and 4″ tall. It holds 32 ounces or 3 cups. Use it for tea, as a plant holder or kitschy decoration!
Painted on the front are three adorable mushrooms resembling the genus Amanita, more commonly known as Fairy Mushrooms. The spotted mushies look like A. muscaria – a psychedelic mushroom used by shamans for spiritual and physical healing which some believe inspired Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland – while the solid-red capped mushroom on the right resembles Caesar’s mushroom – A. caesarea – a non-toxic shroom found in oak forests of southern Europe and northern Africa.
